Mt. Athos COVID-19 update
The deputy governor of the Mount Athos monastic community has extended a suspension of pilgrimages to the peninsula until April 15, the foreign ministry announced on Wednesday. Additionally, anyone wishing to enter the monastic community must undergo precautionary checks at the ports of entry.
Twenty new cases of coronavirus have been detected on Mount Athos, as reported by makthes.gr, all in monks of the monasteries. Aristos Kasmiroglou, deputy commander of Mount Athos, said that the 20 cases were in the Nea Sketi, Pantokrator, and Karyes. So far all the monks are being treated in the monasteries, except for one, who is hospitalised in Thessaloniki. Vaccination has started on the Holy Mountain.
