2020 Path Clearing Expedition (POSTPONED)
THE PLANNED EXPEDITION FOR 2020 HAS BEEN POSTPONED PENDING DEVELOPMENTS WITH THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC
The Friends of Mount Athos are committed to the ongoing project of clearing, restoring and maintaining the old Athonite footpaths – many of them stone-paved (kaldirimi) tracks for transporting goods by mule and dating from late Byzantine times. Twenty six path clearers from eight countries will be joining our 2020 pilgrimage, among whom will be eight first-timers. Between May 9th and 23rd, our teams will have the pleasure of staying at and working from our host monasteries of Vatopedi, Pantokrator, Hilandar, Konstamonitou, Lavra, Panteleimonos, Grigoriou, Dionysiou, Koutloumousiou and Zographou.
